AMD 5
For this AMD, I decided to find some good German music. I have only ever known about Rammstein and the other bands that we heard in class. So, I wanted to see what else Germany has to offer in the music industry. I am not a huge metal fan so I was a little discouraged when I googled, "Best German Bands in Germany" and all the google results were "Best German metal bands" or "Best heavy metal bands in the world." I finally found a website that listed the top ten German bands of all time. Here's the list: http://www.the-top-tens.com/lists/best-german-bands.asp. I have already listened to some of Rammstein and Scorpions, but I have never even heard of the other bands. From just the top 5 bands, I realized how diverse German music is. Rammstein is metal, Tokio Hotel is like pop punk, Scorpions is classic hard rock, Kraftwerk is completely techno, and Eisblume is slower rock. I kind of found Gentleman funny. Reggae just does not sound as good in German. I also recognized Nena as soon as I youtubed her. Everyone knows 99 Luftballoons. I was surprised that there was not any rap, though. I know that we have listened to some in German class so I was expecting at least one hip hop band on the top ten list. Overall, I liked a lot of the music. I think that Kraftwerk was the most fun to listen to. I am definitely on the techno-ish kick right now with the new Daft Punk album coming out. I can tell by listening to Kraftwerk that Daft Punk has been influenced by them greatly. When I watched the music video for Kraftwerk's "The Robots", though, they reminded me a lot of the Nihilist band, Autobahn from "The Big Lebowski." Hopefully the members of Kraftwerk aren't actually as robotic as that band.
