Bureaucracy Gone Awry: The German Certificate Fetish

I think it is great that Germans maintain their lives on paper. I also think that the addd efficiency to getting a job or paying taxes would outweigh the added paper to the process of it all. This article makes me thing about the job market and how many people don't really have the credentials they claim to have. It may not be a matter of lying to a firm who your interviewing for but in all reality do those computer skills you learned in the 7th grade really fresh in your mind today. This article also makes me reflect on myself and how i maintain my paper life...lets just say that I could take a lesson or two in organization.

Welcome to America. Take a Number.

I think this article reflects the mentality and lifestyle of American society. Demand for important things in this country is high and everyone seems to be demanding the same thing, thus a long line forms. More importantly, the writer of this article comments on the buildings Americans work in not being stable and in tact all year. This is a more quintessential observation that the writer thought as America is built on a quickly made, shoddy foundation.

Love Thy Neighbor: German Law Tells You How

This article is great to me. Although I've enjoyed learning that Germans have order and a protocol to almost every aspect of life everywhere, I think I'm starting to see a line there...where order becomes micromanagement.

Germany's Patriotism Problem: Just Don't Fly the Flag

It's very interesting to me that not flying the national flag is an example of Germany's persistent shame toward the Holocost and remembrance of East and West Germany. Then again, in the span of Germany as a country it really doesn't seem that long ago. There was a lot of aftermath regarding world war two and it still effects them. I think that in 50 years things will be a little different and once Germany has time to unite itself under a new sense of patriotism they will be a bit more proud of the German flag.
