AMD 3 - Abigail Orrick

For this AMD, I figured I would listen to a bit more Rammstein, as I only knew one song that I was introduced to by a foreign exchange student about 3 years ago. First I looked at their wiki page to learn a bit more about their history. They formed in 1994 and their name refers to the Ramstein Air Show Disaster in which members of the Italian Air Force collided during a display for spectators, resulting in 67 spectators dead and 346 injured. Their name literally translates to "ramming stone."

The only song I had heard previously was Du Hast Mich, and there is actually a lot of dispute about the true meaning of the lyrics. It literally translates to, "you have me," but many native german speakers say that the meaning is closer to "you hate me" (which would mean 'hast' actually = 'hasst').

Their most recent album, Liebe ist für alle da (Love is for everyone), was released in 2009. I listened to the title track and tried best I could to understand what they were saying. The actually lyrics are fairly explicit (not that I care, but probably not appropriate for an amd), but here's a verse with translation that isn't too bad.

Ich mach die Augen zu
Dann seh ich sie
Ich sperr sie ein in meine Fantasie
Ich mach die Augen zu
Sie wehrt sich nicht
Liebe ist für alle da - nicht für mich

I was able to translate everything but most of the third line and part of the fifth line, and it means:

I close my eyes,
then I see her.
I lock her up in my imagination
I close my eyes
She doesn't defend herself
Love is for everyone, but not for me.

Listening to these songs was interesting, to say the least.
