Kultur 11 - Kalli Barrone

Even though I think it's really sad that such a high percentage of people in West Berlin wish the Wall was still there, people can be exceptionally set in their ways. I think older people especially are more likely to stick to what they know, and for many people that might mean a Wall dividing Berlin. I think this can kind of be compared to racial divides and sexual orientation debates. Usually, older people are less accepting of new social/political movements. I would assume the number of people who wish the wall was still there will decrease as the older generation passes away.
Regarding Ostalgie, I can't really think of something in America that's comparable to it. Perhaps buying vintage looking clothing? Or old fashioned glass coke bottles? I think we definitely have a sense of wanting to connect with 'the good old days' too.
The German timeline of events of the New Germany was pretty interesting. I'd like to note 2003, where all the Germans decided they hated Bush and America in general and that they were against the invasion of Iraq. Along with the rest of the world too, I'm sure.
I feel like I've read a lot of articles about north Germany being 'superior' to southern Germany. Even if the authors never come out and say that, it seems to be implied that Bavarians are country bumpkins while the people of north Germany are smarter and more sophisticated. Personally, I think I'd have more fun in southern Germany. The people are probably nice and funny, and they sound like a pretty good time!
