I enjoyed reading Breaking Down the Wall in the Head as it gave me a better idea of Germany's east-west cultural profile. It seems that for the most part, the east and west mesh fairly well but with a few extremists who prefer the way things used to be.
Also, Backward Southerners, Frigid Northerners was entertaining. This article seemed to offer a less serious opinion on the matter. The prejudices between Northern and Southern Germany sound similar to my friends' ongoing argument about New England vs. Midwest. It's mostly for fun but our jokes definitely stem from slight preconceptions.
And as for In Berlin You Never Have to Stop: It seems like Berlin would be a really fun place to live right after college. I sometimes think about moving out to Utah to spend a year or so just skiing and working a small job. Berlin looked to me to be an epicenter of that type of attitude.
