AMD 6-Uchechi Ogbenna

For this AMD, I decided to read some poetry. This was a very interesting process because first, I tried to read poetry written in German and translate it to English. After that, I tried to read poems written in English and then translate to German. I thought that translating the German to English would be slightly easier than translating the English to German; however both were not so bad. The first poem that I tried this process on was “Meine Nachtigall” by Rose Ausländer. For this poem, I tried to translate the German to English. Then I compared my translation with the English equivalent. My translation was not too bad, it was actually pretty decent. Then I tried to translate another Rose Ausländer poem from English to German. This poem is entitled “Motherland” in English and “Mutterland auf Deutsch. This was a very short poem. Translating this poem from English to German was actually not so bad, my translation was pretty close, given that it only had 2 stanzas/ tercets. Overall, this activity was pretty interesting given the process of translating the poems.
