Reading these articles, I was surprised to learn of the dislike between der Norden und der Süden von Deutschland. This reminds me of the prejudice between the north and south in America, the article Backwards Southerners, Frigid Northerners: Germany's Real Divide even compared the modes of speech between the American south to der deutsch Süden.
I was also surprised to learn that some Menschen in Deutschland for the die Mauer to still be in place. I suppose that I can understand that they wish for the system that they are familiar with, but I doubt that I will ever understand why someone would want to live in such an oppressive system. I found this line, 'In East Germany, I could say what I thought. Not about the government, of course, but then I didn't have anything against the government.', from Breaking Down the Wall in the Head rather ironic. The statement was from a man that wished the divide still existed and yet he still sounds afraid of the East German government despite the fact that at the time the article was written the divide had not existed for vierzhen Jahre.
