Kulture 7, John H.

The article I found most intriguing in this block of reading was "Take it from a German: How Not to Die on German Roads." As an out and proud Mass-hole, we take and immense form of jingoistic pride in our aggressive driving ability. For example, turn signals are a sign of weakness, flipping the bird is an everyday occurrence, the 'speed limit' in the other lanes is the 'speed minimum' in the left, one assumes that at a turn signal the driver opposite will gun it to bang a u-ey and cut off the on coming traffic. Taking this into account, these strict regimented rules that the Germans have simply will not do, no sir. If someone called the po-po's every time I flipped someone off I'd have a rap sheet so long you'd think Tolstoy wrote it. All of these "don't do this or you'll DIE" things do not endear me to the driving rule of that country either. However, a good friend from of mine from back home in wonderful, glorious New England was stationed at Ramstein AFB for just under 4 years and says that these rules are in fact true. This makes me sad.
